Appointment Provisions
Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council Act
The Council consists of:
- a President, appointed by GIC to hold office for such term not exceeding five years; and
- not more than eighteen members appointed by GIC to hold office for such term not exceeding three years, as will ensure as far as possible the expiration in any one year of the terms of fewer than one-half of the members.
The President and the other members are eligible for reappointment in the same or another capacity.
The Council, with GIC approval, may elect one of its members to be Vice-President.
In the event of the absence or incapacity of the President or if the office of President is vacant, the Vice-President has all the powers of the President.
Quorum
A majority of all appointed members shall form a quorum for the transaction of business. (By-laws)
Remuneration

- Remuneration Nil - Statutory Prohibition
- Vice-President and Members: serve without remuneration but each member is entitled to reasonable travelling and other expenses incurred while absent from his/her ordinary place of residence.
Notwithstanding the above, a member, other than the President, may, with the approval of the Council perform duties on behalf of the Council in addition to his/her ordinary duties as a member. That member may be paid such remuneration as may be authorized by the Council.
