The National Battlefields Commission, as manager of Battlefields Park, enables Canadians to enjoy the first national historic urban park in Canada and one of the most prestigious parks in the world. The NBC has a mandate to acquire and conserve the great historical battlefields in Quebec City and turn them into a national park. The NBC is responsible for the acquisition, administration, governance and development of the battlefields and for managing the funds allocated to them.

The Board of Directors includes:

• seven Commissioners appointed by the Governor in Council to hold office during pleasure. The Governor in Council names one of these Commissioners to hold office as Chairman during pleasure;
• under the Act, any province which contributes a sum of not less than one hundred thousand dollars to the purposes of the Commission is entitled to appoint a Commissioner and such Commissioner shall hold office during the pleasure of the Government appointing him/her;
• a Secretary appointed by the Governor in Council to hold office during pleasure.
